Robin's KonMari Journey

Before KonMari ... I was as lost as my keys!

Some clients assume I was always organized, but that's not the case. When I first read Marie Kondo's book, The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up, I was chronically overwhelmed. I was always running late and losing my keys and feeling a lot of friction in daily life. I was buried in clothes and things kept around for "someday." Getting dressed, I imagined how I would be perceived by others, but was disconnected from what felt authentic to myself.

The "Joy Check" transformed my life

The KonMari "joy check" revealed so much to me, allowing me to discover my own healthy center hidden within layers of people-pleasing and what-if scenarios.

Listening somatically and intentionally choosing the "thrill of joy" helped me claim my authenticity. KonMari was one important step of many that helped me break free from depression.

                                                  I started helping others

My first client was my auntie who struggled with extreme clutter.        Despite her being exceptionally clean, with beautiful taste in art and decor — the home was inundated with piles including papers, new shopping items, and storage containers. She never invited guests over. She had hired professional organizers, but none could help her, and on a few occasions she felt invaded by the way they handled her things.

Working together, the Marie Kondo method became her breakthrough. The intentional approach both made sense of the chaos and honored her deep sensitivity. After our first session, she told me with tears in her eyes "I have hope for the first time". I was beyond grateful to be able to give back to a woman who had given me so much — and to realize I had a tool that could do the "impossible".

A few sessions in, her longtime accountant came the the house. When the accountant saw the dining table clear for the first time in 20 years, she pulled me aside and said I had worked a miracle. When I saw "magic" on the memo line of the check for my work, I knew this was a gift I wanted to keep sharing, because the impact can change things in a way that goes beyond what feels ordinary.

Certified by Marie Kondo

Without formal training, I was still completing work with my first couple of clients when Marie Kondo announced the first KonMari Method Consultant training outside Japan. I enrolled and was trained in that first class of consultants in 2016. Upon completing my practice hours and Consultant Exam, I earned my Consultant Certification in 2018.

Working with clients

Since 2016, I have witnessed the magic of tidying enhance many lives. I have worked with individuals, couples, and families ranging from their 20s to their 70s from diverse cultural backgrounds and lifestyles.

Sometimes clients are welcoming a baby, moving, working a sobriety program, or making changes to support neuro-divergence that makes tidying up crucial for self care. I am honored hold space for my clients as they add this process to their journey of living lives that reflect their deepest values.

Some clients live in shared apartments and others live in large houses. Some are within walking distance and others require a flight! Wherever you are and whatever your motivations for enhancing order in your home, I am excited to work with you! I am always here to support, never to judge.

One thing I have learned is that no matter what kind of lifestyle or career we may have, we share the same tender aspects humanity and everyone wants to feel good in the space they call home.

My Joy at Home

Choosing joy for me means a home full of color, friends, art, and plants! Lots of cooking and baking happen in the kitchen with fun ingredients — like psyllium husk for gluten-free bread, hot pink dragon fruit, or a secret family recipe chai mix from a bestie's Punajabi mom. A projector allows for movie nights without a TV. There's storage for rollerblades, hiking boots, camping gear, and snowboard. Things can get "messy" but the secret is having a place for everything to go away to when it's time to reset the space. Resetting is part of celebrating the wholeness of days fully lived. When everything returns home to where it lives, there's a palpable beauty that feels like magic — the magic of serenity and fresh potential waiting to unfold.
